Dear Friends of Alto Refugio
We are so thankful to the Lord that we get so many opportunities this year as well to talk about his love.
„I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.“
These are familiar words of Jesus. What if today someone came along the Venezuela street (our street) calling out these words? How would we react? Exactly! We would think: „Again someone broke out of the mental institution!” That’s correct! This is exactly how people thought at the time of Jesus. They thought it is, at least, a „crazy person“.
But there were also people who believed in him. They listened to him and understood maybe half of it but they trusted this man.
The rest thought: „We will do the world a favor if we help to kill him!“
The situation today hasn’t changed. Either we believe what Jesus says or we put it aside as „kids‘stuff“ for weaker people, for those who are not well in their head. Who would believe somebody who said clever sayings 2000 years ago? Who would entrust him one‘s life until death?
Only you can and have to answer this honestly deep in your heart. Do I trust him or do I follow my own will doing what I want to!
This was one of my (Bertram) reflections here at Alto Refugio!
God bless you!
Every time when we receive an invitation from a church to inform about Gods‘work at Alto Refugio, it is special to us. In February we got the chance to inform at Concordia in Asunción and at the church in Friesland.
In June we were given the opportunity to organize part of the Thanksgiving service at the Adonai church in Filadelfia.
We are looking forward to each invitation that we receive in order inform in the churches about our work.
At such visits, it is our main goal to inform about what Paraguay does in the area of HIV/AIDS, what we experience with God and how he works. We need people who support us through prayer.
Mothers- and Fathers day:
Our people like to celebrate. Of this we take advantage here at Alto Refugio because God is the center of attention at each event. In June we celebrated Mothers day with 44 women. We asked Sonia Grimm to bring a short reflection. After that something happened that I would like to share with you.
A woman talked about herself saying that she had felt so abandoned and rejected when she received the diagnosis „HIV positive“.Here at Alto Refugio for the first time she felt respected and loved. She motivated the other women with the following words: „If you haven’t yet confessed your sins at the cross, do it today. Jesus is waiting for you with his arms open and he provides you with deep inner peace.“
Such moments motivate us to open our doors again every day.
Prayer Requests:
-At the moment we need someone for our educational speeches as well as someone who can help us with counseling, especially during the hospital visits.
-It is and will always be a challenge not to lose sight of our main goal which is to pass on God’s love.
-For unity in the team.
Acknowledgement:
-For all donations, motivational words, and protection at Alto Refugio.
